Wedding Flowers at the New Continental Hotel Plymouth
The New Continental Hotel in Plymouth is a historic and prestigious venue, perfect for weddings of all sizes. Built in the 19th century, it is the largest independent hotel in the city and a popular choice for those who want to celebrate their special day in style. Located in the heart of the city, the hotel offers a convenient and beautiful setting for both the ceremony and reception. With flexible event spaces, modern facilities, and warm hospitality, the New Continental Hotel is the ideal choice for couples looking to create unforgettable memories.

The Couple’s Vision: A Yellow and White Wedding
For this particular wedding, I had the privilege of working with a couple who had a clear and elegant vision for their special day. They wanted their wedding to radiate warmth, joy, and timeless beauty with a yellow and white colour palette. Central to their floral theme were freesias, chosen for their delicate fragrance and vibrant colour, and gypsophila, a classic choice that adds a soft, ethereal touch.
To complement these blooms, I incorporated roses for a touch of romance and tulips and lisianthus for their beautiful shape and texture. These flowers worked together harmoniously to create arrangements that were both eye-catching and sophisticated, perfectly matching the couple’s vision.

Floral Designs for the Bridal Party
The bride and her bridal party were the focal points of the day, and the floral designs reflected their unique roles and personalities.
The Bride
The bride requested a dramatic and flowing waterfall (shower) bouquet, which I crafted with freesias, gypsophila, tulips, roses, and lisianthus. The design was elegant, graceful, and perfectly suited to her gown. To tie her look together, I also created a delicate floral hair comb using matching blooms. This piece added a subtle yet cohesive touch to her overall appearance.
Maid of Honour
The bride’s daughter, who served as maid of honour, received a bouquet that mirrored the bride’s but was smaller, more posy shaped and tailored to her personal style. It maintained the same yellow and white theme while allowing her role in the bridal party to shine.
Flower Girls
There were three flower girls, aged between 6 and 10. For these young attendants, I crafted dainty flower crowns made entirely of gypsophila. These crowns gave them a soft, angelic look and fit perfectly with the wedding’s elegant yet light-hearted atmosphere. Each flower girl also carried a small bouquet, scaled appropriately for their ages and featuring the same flowers as the main arrangements.
Buttonholes
The bridal party also included eleven buttonholes, each carefully crafted to match the floral theme. Additionally, I designed a junior buttonhole for a young boy, which was smaller in size but equally charming. This thoughtful detail added a sweet and memorable touch to his outfit.

Ceremony and Reception Décor: Long and Low Table Arrangement
A key feature of the wedding decor was the long and low table arrangement, which played a dual role. First, it was used as a centrepiece during the ceremony, adding a vibrant and romantic touch to the setting. Later, it was repurposed for the top table at the reception, ensuring that it continued to play an important role in the wedding’s aesthetic. This practical yet elegant design incorporated freesias, gypsophila, roses, tulips and lisianthus, tying together all the floral elements of the day.

Cake Flowers
One of the standout features of the reception was the wedding cake. The couple wanted something special and unique. The cake designer created a stunning three-tiered ombre cake in shades of gold and off-white. To enhance its beauty, I added floral decorations between each tier. The arrangement created the illusion that the cake was floating above the flowers, a design that drew admiration from all the guests. This detail transformed the cake into a show-stopping centrepiece, combining artistry and elegance.
